Just a five-minute walk from The Evanston Suites, Moccasin Springs is Hot Springs, South Dakota’s adults-only natural mineral springs experience. Their six pools are fed by the geothermal mineral springs in the area, with no added chemicals. You can see the mineral content and history of Moccasin Springs here.
Most of the pools’ structure is crafted with natural rocks and has several different levels, making it a very unique setting. These photos were taken in early May, but in the summer the gardens around add even more to the relaxing atmosphere. I love how all the different levels and structural elements make it possible to be in the water but stay in the shade, if desired. (Note that if you do use sunscreen, they require only natural sunscreens.)
The pools range in temperature from 80-106 degrees, and they ask guests to rotate around to all the pools. (You won’t want to stay in the hottest one very long, anyway!). Changing rooms, restrooms, and a warming house are all available to guests.
It’s a quiet, relaxing place to soak due to their rule of “quiet voices” required. All guests must be 18 or older, and cell phones must be silenced.
(If you’re looking for mineral springs pool to take the whole family to, check out Evans Plunge, also a short walk from our vacation suites.)
I highly recommend reserving your spot online, as they do limit the number of guests at the pool. (You can drop in for a soak, but a spot is not guaranteed and they do frequently fill up.). You’ll choose a 3-hour time slot for your time at the hot springs.
Moccasin Springs also offers other spa treatments and therapies. Towels, robes, and slippers are available for purchase (but if you stay at The Evanston, we provide a complimentary beach towel for you to take).
Also on the Moccasin Springs property is the Buffalo Dreamer steakhouse, a great option for lunch or dinner. (The restaurant is also 18+.)
Before you go, visit the Moccasin Springs website to make a reservation, see their latest hours, rates, and additional information.
